There's a full bar, but when you arrive, ask for tea for the table. The staff will bring you a pot of hot black tea to share; the perfect palate-cleanser between dishes. Main event: the food. Give us the lowdown—especially what not to miss.
The restaurant perfectly executes classic, no-frills food. Their rich pork bun, stuffed with honey-glazed meat; and their sweet, crispy honey walnut prawns are among their most famous hits. Don't miss the bite-sized Shanghai soup dumplings, though beware the temperature of the savory broth inside: it's very hot. Larger dishes for which they're known include the pork sticky rice, served inside a banana leaf cut open at the table.
If you have the room for it, get a traditional egg tart for dessert. It's typical dim sum service: Wait staff roll carts up to your table and you tell them what you want. Because so many customers cycle through the restaurant on any given day, staff is very pragmatic, but not particularly chatty; it's all about efficiency when it comes to feeding dim sum crowds.
For what it's worth, the speed is a good thing: You'll want to try as much as possible. Come here with a medium-sized group four to eight people , so you can all sample a variety of flavors. This restaurant has vegetarian options, but it heavily favors omnivores. I could eat here weekly. Consistently the best dim sum in San Francisco. Soup dumplings, crab claws, har gow, su mai, ……pardon my spelling.
I do miss eating in the restaurant with linen tablecloths and the amazing tea pots. Not up to standard. The quality of the food was good but the variety offered was much less than I have had before. The service was very poor. It was hard to get water and tea and very hard to get the bill. The QR system was extremely annoying and didn't work. After we sat down and selected a few things we wanted to wait to finish those before getting more, but the carts started avoiding us and we had to work to call over carts to get more.
The selection was very limited compared to normal; no cole slaw, no fish, no shrimp balls; limited shu mai. A very disappointing experience. Restaurant was well filled but service terrible and choices limited. Really nice place to get Sunday Dim Sum with great servers and super tasty food.
They're very patient with the diners as well, and the large area keeps the noise down. Service and food quality has gone downhill. I miss the Yank Sing. Had to ask multiple times just to ask for water and a box to take food home.
Food was also served cold. Not the Yank Sing I remembered. Our waiters also forgot the last order—roasted duck. Luckily we were not charged for it. Food was good, just a little bit pricey for basic dimsum. Everything from the moment we arrived to the moment we left was fantastic. The host was very friendly and attentive and the staff were as well. The food was very, very good and I would highly recommend. And they validate parking! The food is always great.
Service is slow. Friends from Denver remembered their first dim sum lunch at Yank Sing from years ago. They came to town this weekend and their restaurant of choice: Yank Sing. All these years later, that memory of excellent dim sum and service was never clouded. We had reservations at the Spear Restaurant and we stayed 3 hours. Yank Sing serves the highest quality of dim sum!
Service was very attentive and responsive. We highly recommend Yank Sing and will go back again and again! Sat on card tables in the middle of rincon center. Food was not great. Service was not great. Had reservations and by the staff was breaking down tables and hauling trash bags around us. Will not return. Reservation system, open air dining, checking in with vaccination card, friendly staff, frequent dim sum carts were all positive!
Some of the dishes were not as tasty though. No nearly as much selection as in the past, and would love to be inside the restaurant. Nice to see Yank Sing again after a long time! Restaurant was organized in handling checking cards, checking people in and ordering.
Would have liked to see their full menu as before but dim sum was great as always! Most delicious dim sum and fabulous experience. My wife and I hadn't been to the Yank Sing at the Rincon Center for a couple years and were disappointed that some of our favorite dishes were no longer offer, especially the Peking Duck and soft shell crab.
Still, there is plenty to select from and the quality of the food remains excellent. Also, we were asked to order our drinks online which created some confusion with our bill. Out of town visitors wanted to try dim sum.
Food was great. Found this dim sum spot on the top 20 best brunch places in SF SF eater. Traditional items on the menu and some unique ones, like vegetable curry wanton dumplings. Everything was fresh. The current set up for COVID is not in the restaurant, but weekends are set up outside in the open area of the center for better air and space. This made the experience very echoey but we appreciated the spacing and the carts still regularly circled. Waiters were incredibly attentive.
Paying the bill was super easy through an online order queue. Good dim sum overall. Lots of choices. A little pricey. I appreciate the vaccination requirement. Very safe restaurant in the atrium under pandemic circumstances. Food is good and staff is responsive. Seating in indoor plaza now for covid precautions, vaccine cards for adults checked at door. Service and quality of food excellent. Not inexpensive dim sum but always reliable and we always look forward to our meal at Yank Sing.
This place is NOT what it used to be. For a place where the prices are higher than other dim sum places, I would expect a better experience. Food was just OK. The tables were similar to the plastic tables you might find in a hole in the wall type of joint. I actually like hole in the wall places, but not when I am spending like I should be in a more refined restaurant. Ordering drinks and other food through an app and then waiting for an hour before the ordered food arrives?
Whats the use? I understand the need to minimize person to person interaction due to Covid, but for the premium price you're paying for minimal service and just OK food, I'd rather go to Harbor View or Pallette. The food was attractive and excellent in taste. Our servers were very helpful and fun to talk to about options.
Great meal! As usual, Yank Sing did not disappoint. We were seated immediately. The food was delicious. We got pork buns, pot stickers, chicken and mushroom dumplings, and a few others. We were full and satisfied when leaving. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone, and will definitely be eating here again. Authentic Chinese Dim Sum. Good xiao long bao. Good crab claws. First rate dim sum with excellent service. Lina, one of the managers, chatted with us at length to ensure our satisfaction with every single aspect of our wonderful Sunday lunch.
This is a woman who takes her job and responsibility very seriously. The food was excellent. These were gristly and gray.
All the other dishes were spot on and just as good as we remembered them to be at what undoubtedly is the gold standard in San Francisco dim sum.
