In fact, we actually broke the top of the screw off trying to screw it in so tight, but luckily the other screws are locked in tight. Assemble TV wall mount kit according to instructions. Mount brackets to TV. To hide the cords, we used a white extension cord that blends in with our brick and wall paint and traced it along the mantle and brick, all the way down the wall and to the outlet.
Streaming services have worked in our favor so we did not have a need for the coaxial cable too. This TV has a Chromecast plug which has a lot shorter cord so we got an extension cord with power strip on it and mounted it on the wall right off the brick. We used a cord concealer in white to hold the extension cord along the wall and baseboard.
Now you have a flat screen mounted on a brick wall! It was worth the couple hours of work and the cord hiding to mount it above the fireplace in my opinion. If you are interested in seeing how I painted my brick fireplace, check out this tutorial! Majority of houses in our budget and….
For a refresher, two weeks ago I shared my first post where I revealed master bedroom project. Welcome to week 4 of the One Room Challenge! Masonry drill bits: Masonry bits are an absolute must. They have chisel-like tips and wings designed to drill into heavy-duty concrete and brick surfaces.
Keep in mind that many fastener kits come with a masonry bit. Level: A TV bracket usually has enough play for post-installation tweaking, but a level helps you get as close as possible while installing. Anchors or concrete screws: For hanging a TV in brick, both plastic wall anchors and concrete screws will work. For larger, heavier TVs over 75 pounds , concrete screws are recommended, but for lighter TVs, plastic wall anchor screws installed correctly are more than sufficient.
Driver bit for your anchor or screws: For plastic anchor screws, a 2 Phillips driver bit that you can tighten into your drill driver is usually best. For concrete screws, a 3 Phillips or a socket set will do the trick. Washers: The slots and holes on the mounting hardware may be too large for a screw head, in which case correctly-sized washers will be necessary. Tape measure: A tape measure is a necessity for accurate bracket placement. Hammer or rubber mallet: A rubber mallet might be best for tapping anchors into the brick, but a hammer will work as well and might be more practical.
Small Shop Vac: Drilling into brick creates a lot of dust. A shop vac can help keep the floor clean and remove dust from a drilled hole.
Safety gear: A pair of safety glasses and a dust mask will keep dust out of your eyes and lungs. Step 1: Choose a location Before you drill any holes, be sure to find a location close enough to an electrical outlet and cable jack.
The fewer visible cables, the better looking the installation. If your bracket is a two-piece, attach both pieces to the back of the TV as if they were mounted on the wall. Measure from the bottom of the wall bracket to the bottom of the TV.
While you can usually get away with mounting a flat-screen tv over an electric fireplace, when it comes to gas or wood-burning units made to produce heat, you must be careful what you place above the mantel. Even direct vent gas fireplace and inserts produce a substantial amount of heat that can eventually deem your television useless. In most cases, you should not install electronics above wood-burning stoves or gas fireplaces and inserts because they produce massive amounts of heat.
That heat could severely damage your tv or other electronic devices. An open fireplace that burns wood or decorative gas logs, which has non-removable glass doors with gaskets and a tight-fitting latch or air-tight doors, would frequently allow a TV to stick out from the facing IF said television was mounted in excess of 12 inches above the opening or fireplaces lintels. If the answer is yes to ANY of those questions, then heat could become a problem for the TV mounted above your fireplace.
We know hanging your TV above the fireplace or mantel is a trendy thing to do these days, but before grabbing your drill and a new mount, perhaps the best place to start is asking yourself this question:. When trying to relax and watch our favorite shows, we all want the best possible viewing conditions. So, now to find out how far back to put a couch or recliner chairs away from a TV hung over the fireplace.
Using the television mounted above our inch fireplace, where the center of the flat-panel screen is approximately 7-feet above the floor. Our goal was to determine how far away we must sit from the tv mounted above the mantle not to need to lookup. Our reason for doing this is to avoid getting neck pain. Are you bummed about not being able to attach a TV above your fireplace?
Projector technology has come a long way and is much higher quality than they ever were before! The projector shines an image onto a lightweight screen. These modern devices are a real convenience that attaches to a ceiling instead of a wall. Many of them also have remote-controlled opening and closing capabilities that allow you to hide the screen quickly! The projector box itself can also be concealed in a decorative cabinet when not displayed. Many people frequently wonder what tv mounts to use above your fireplace.
These are great for a standard wall assuming you know how to use a stud finder and choose the right sturdy spot to hang your tv. We love that these mounts move in different directions and provide mobility to your television if you need it.
However, If the wall above the mantle is a brick or stone veneer, we do NOT recommend using adjustable mounts on the facing above your fireplace. These full-motion bracket mounts pose a risk when hanging it on a fireplace surround and facing. Usually, the brick, rock, tile, or stone veneer facing a fireplace is held onto the wall by a thin layer of mortar.
Now, bolting in a heavy object on that facing places a lot of strain on a pretty important piece of your room! Think about it. New tv models under inch are fairly lightweight lbs. The older flat panels typically weigh between lbs.
Add in the weight of the mount itself, which is usually over 30 lbs. You could easily have at least lbs. The leverage of a cantilever arm helps move heavy objects but puts more of the load on the wall itself. We Recommend: The type of mounts that do NOT move or adjust are the safest to use when mounting a tv above a fireplace, especially when attached to fireplace facing.
And as we detailed in this blog, whether or not a typical flat screen above the fireplace is the right option for you depends on several factors.
